CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara w a Raincoat :P

I received the CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara as part of the Hunger Games Catching Fires Promo…or it might have been the first black box I received from them. In either case, I was excited to try out yet another mascara.

The only problem was that it wasn’t waterproof. Well…actually it was also REALLY dry…but not like its old, or that it would flake on you, but still quite dry. Which in the case of lashes that refuse to curl, is a good thing, so its not bad, but when I swept the wand on to my lashes, it didn’t really feel like it was doing anything. So I ditched it.

Then I saw a video by Meredith, on her Sunday Makeup Basket Debrief video (I think…). That’s when I figured I would give it another shot.

This time, I took my time to carefully coat my lashes. And guess what?

Because I had to take the time to apply it, it helped to lift my stubby lashes. In addition, because I am slowly coating the lashes, and building the layers, I was able to lengthen them a bit as well.

Now here is where I post creepy eyeball pictures.

This shows you the lengthening of the lashes.

I flipped my left eye to resemble my right eye, but essentially those are two different eyes. Just an FYI on that.

The top row shows the lengthening again, and the bottom row show the lift. I know I know…stubby lashes, you can’t really see the lift. But I swear to you its there! And even a little is a great accomplishment for me, if I don’t use a curler beforehand.

But alas…the waterproofing. Because I have oily skin and monolids, the mascara barely lasted 3 hours on me…before I ended up with raccoon eyes. It is one of the reasons I always get waterproof when I can, as it provides a barrier than prolongs the amount of time that my face eats away at the mascara and disperse it lol

Luckily another favourite brand of mine did something about that :)

I received a tube of the Marcelle Waterproofing Top Coat Mascara back in the Summer. So what I liked to do though, is add the Marcelle Waterproofing Top Coat to Flamed Out. Retailing on the website for ~$17, you will find it cheaper at some vendors. It is a tad expensive, I can totally agree with that. But I mean it does take what you have currently, and lets you waterproof it on your own. In any case, I think it is great that Marcelle came up with such a innovative thing for their brand. I used to use the Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal, because it was suggested to me by an artist that I know (You could also you the Illamasqua Sealing Gel in the same way I suppose). In any case it was messy to do, as I had to squirt it out, then apply with a fan brush. So the fact that this is used with its own mascara wand is nice. Unfortunately the wand didn’t agree with my lashes. Because the bristles were so spread apart, it ended up clumping lashes together. So what I did end up doing was either apply with a fan brush (and on that side note this is far easier to wash out than MUFE Aqua Seal), or applying it on my finger and sweeping my lashes with it.

Also I would remind you that you should store this standing, rather than laying down, and don’t forget not to put the tube down when you are using it, otherwise the product will leak out!

So what?

Well the issue with racoons eyes that I had with the Covergirl Flamed Out Mascara, was solved for a little while longer because of the Marcelle Waterproofing Top Coat.

Of course, it is pricey. So that is a little hard to swallow for me. But have no fear, there are always sales about and I see 20-25% off on Marcelle products at Rexall relatively often. So if you are interested in it, you could always check it out then :)

In any case, what do you think?
Would you venture in to trying a waterproofing mascara so that you can enjoy your regular mascara even more? Or is this something you are staying clear of?

  1. It seems like too much trouble? I’d rather have one product that does ALL, I don’t want to tote around two… and marvelous as it may be, the mascara topcoat is on the pricey side (even with 25% off!).

    1. True~ In a perfect world all my favourite brands would have waterproof versions of them :) Too bad I can’t have my way~^^
But yes, it is on the pricier side, which does make it hard to check out. Anyway thanks for dropping by BB :)
